Signing for the Sharks in January 1998, he played his first Hull match against Salford in March, the same year and went on to become the clubs top try scorer with 8 tries in 17 games. Born in Fiji on the 3rd of November 1970, Fili is married. His two previous clubs were South Queensland Crushers and Illawarra Steelers, both of Australia. Fili has represented his home country Fiji in the Rugby Union and Rugby League world Cups.
